#CarrieOn : Joy
“Do what brings you JOY.” This sounds so easy ~ and it is truly so difficult. As motivated and passionate adults we often talk ourselves into doing what is necessary. Why do we think that that cannot be done with joy? At what point do we make that philosophical transition that convinces us that work cannot be joy filled?
Joy is remarkable. Joy is inspiring. Joy breathes life. I recently met with a high school senior who was desperately trying to talk herself into a ‘reasonable’ career. The whole conversation was a struggle. I then simply asked her: “If money wasn’t an issue, what would you like to do every day for the rest of your life?” She took a deep breath...and then erupted with thoughts and excitement and enthusiasm about what she truly wanted to do with her life. It was awesome. It was awe inspiring. She overflowed with joy talking about her true passion. Why do we work so hard to push ourselves away from the things that infuse joy into our lives?
Do you allow joy to be a part of your day? Or are you too busy being a ‘serious’ grown up? Take the time to enjoy some joy. Intentionally interject joy into your day...and into others’. Making people happy brings me joy. How do I foster that joy? I make positive phone calls to completely unexpecting people. It’s awesome. Try it. #CarrieOn
