#CarrieOn : Professionalism

I think the world needs more professionalism.  I think somewhere along the way we turned our backs on formalities and it is costing us our “edge” in many areas.  I realize the world enjoys casual Fridays and comfy feet and the ‘freedom’ to individualize ~ but I also think that the implied eliteness that comes with professionalism is what sets apart the AVERAGE from the SUPREME.

I realize that many people will vehemently disagree with me on this ~ but this is important to me.

Professionalism fosters both respect and integrity.  Formality is not debilitating, it is clarifying and empowering. Professionalism creates boundaries that are clear and concise.  Professionalism helps people rise to their “A-Game”.

I am not aware of any markedly successful person who has said “My mentor did not model professionalism and because of that I am a better person.”  Seriously.  Think about that.  Be brave enough to model professionalism in your organization.  It can be in your dialogue, your electronic communication and your attire.  I remember being a young girl and listening to my Grandmother tell me: “There’s nothing wrong with being the best dressed person in the room.”  Along that same mantra, there’s nothing wrong with being the most professional person in the organization. #CarrieOn
